New Bag and New Bar

I have been busy as usually (nothing new I am afraid!). Work is manic just before Christmas. It is like people are preparing for the end of the world and want to do everything BEFORE CHRISTMAS!

To keep myself going and reward myself for the hard work I bought a new bag. I am a big fan of Marc Jacobs. I just love that casual New York style combined with French classic. I actually needed a small cute handbag to take to work, travels and evening catch ups.

The x ring in the picture is also new..I know I am a shopaholic..will tell about it later..

Dress: Betty Basics
Fur: Jane Ramsay Australia
Bag: Marc de Marc Jacobs
Shoes: Nine West
Sunnies: Oakley

I love that grey striped dress. I bought it in Lorne, the store had a large selection of Betty Basics clothing. Perfect to every day life, high quality cotton, fits beautifully and stays well in the washing! I have 3 dresses and I ordered even two more as they are just so nice. I am going through this phase that I mainly wear grey, navy blue, white or black..

Last weekend we also trialled the wine bar nearby. We have lived here almost a year and I cannot believe we have not been to this place. It has been rated one of the nicest bars in Melbourne and I have to admit it is. Food was excellent and wine selection superb! The bar is called Bellota.

I ate delicious vegetarian eggplant dish. And my husband ordered John Dory fish.

So nice isn’t it? We had a great weekend. I have been knitting like a crazy person -my way or managing work stress-. I will soon post some instructions for anyone who is interested. A super easy knit.

I will write more soon. I am on my lunch break and running now back to work! Just wanted to post quickly some updates. I cannot wait for Christmas holidays!

Melbourne Zoo and Italian Heaven on Lygon Street

A couple of weekends ago we went to Melbourne Zoo as our daughter loves animals.

IMG_20150621_143814

It was a beautiful day in the middle of the Southern Hemisphere winter.

IMG_20150531_132321

Lygon Street is famous for its fabulous Italian food. As it was not too far away we walked from the zoo to find some tasty Italian lunch. We ended up in the place called Tiamo. It was super popular and we luckily managed to get a table. Later when we told about it to our friends we heard it is an institution on Lygon Street and no wonder as the food was amazing!

IMG_20150606_141505

I ordered calamari salad and it was superb! Such fresh and pure flavours.

IMG_20150606_141509

My husband loves all kind of seafood pasta so he chose to go for one of their special seafood dishes. Food was just fantastic. I can recommend this place to anyone looking for a good Italian in Melbourne!

Birthday at the Brooks of Melbourne

I had my birthday recently and my dear husband wanted to surprise me with a tasty dining experience. As we do not have a babysitter organised yet we had to do a lunch rather than a dinner to celebrate my birthday.

My husband took me to The Brooks of Melbourne. We opted for the city lunch instead of the degustation as my husband could not take a long enough lunch break for the long fine dining lunch.

I started with a bit of sparkling, Tasmanian Arras, in fact Arras ’Cuvee Brut Elite’, NV . A great sparkling, like a champagne.

arras

I have probably mentioned many times but my all time favourite champagne is Pol Roger and the second in the top three is Billecart-Salmon rose champagne. Third place I am not quite sure for which one it goes to there are couple of options competing with each other.

I chose trout for my starter, I love trout and this one was salted and served fresh.

IMG_20150701_124347

My husband chose a creamy onion soup which was delightful.

IMG_20150701_124401

For the main I went for a light vegetarian dish.

IMG_20150701_130658

My husband chose John Dory for his main.

IMG_20150701_130707

I had a lovely birthday. So relaxing. My daughter was in the daycare and I was just wandering in the city and enjoying my life here, doing a bit of shopping… After the crazy three months I felt like I deserved it. I am living in such a great city and am so glad I have finally time to appreciate it!

IMG_20150702_112554

PS. Sorry about the dark photos from the Brooks we were in the cellar and it was very difficult to get the light right as I did not have my DSLR with me…

Dirty Delicious Chinese

Both my husband and I decided to change jobs, we also organised to have some holiday together at the same time, take our daughter to daycare and just enjoy some couple’s time which we never ever have. We have always lived far away from our parents so we have never had any help with our daughter. We could not pass this kind of opportunity to just spend time together and enjoy Melbourne. We went for shopping first as it is the end of financial year sales here. We found so many amazing clothes. It is so much fun to shop in Australia as there are many brands that are not that known in Europe but still super cool and good quality. My favourites are Sportscraft (over 100 year old Australian brand ) and Marcs (Australian as well but super amazing modern casual clothing and silk shirts! I have bought so many of their silk shirts lately). Those are pretty much the ones I visit if I want to find something nice. I also like Tommy Hilfiger for both men and women. Their jeans are the best I reckon.

After a big shop we went for the Chinese feed in China town.

IMG_20150702_125004

I have been eyeing on this one place on Little Burke street for a long time and I am so happy we managed to get there -the line up was huge. The place is called Shanghai Street (46 Little Bourke St). The same place has a smaller quick eat in place in the bottom of Little Burke Street when you turn on Little Burke from Elisabeth street. The place was so packed and the dishes were amazing!

We ordered…a way too much..

Chilli peanut wontons -we thought we would load ourselves with peanut as our daughter was not with us. We cannot really go to Asian places or eat nuts around her due to her severe allergies..so now was our chance.

IMG_20150702_130043

We also went for pork buns…which were the best I have ever eaten..

IMG_20150702_130037

We ordered two noodle dishes the classic Shanghai noodles that again was one of the best Shanghai noodles I have ever had…

IMG_20150702_125612

After these we had to surrender and take the last dish home with us..we felt bad to return it to the kitchen without even touching it..so we have dinner now!

IMG_20150702_130041

All these were home made noodles..now I understand why this place is alway full of Chinese and it always has huge line ups in front..It is so worth it!

So I recommend this place for anyone who wants to eat super good Chinese in Melbourne! Yum!

South Melbourne Restaurant Jewel

A little while ago my dear husband took me for a weekend lunch. Like usually we got our baby to sleep in her pram and strolled for a late 2pm lunch to a local restaurant. I had hardly noticed this place before as it is in the quiet area of South Melbourne almost in the Albert Park. It was fantastic. The place is called Lamaro’s.

I could not believe what a fine dining experience it was just on my door step. To start with I went for a fig, chevre and walnut salad. A very classic combination which can be really boring if not done well but this one was beautifully prepared and presented.

IMG_20150510_141158

My husband went for something a bit meatier!

IMG_20150510_141202

For my main I chose trout. I have not been eating meat much lately, I am somehow a bit tired of meat and prefer vegetarian or seafood at the moment.

IMG_20150510_142638

The crunchy corn with beetroot was different but amazing!

My husband went for a pork belly as expected.

IMG_20150510_142642

The dining experience was great, the wine selection was fantastic and service great! If you are looking for a great little place to eat in South Melbourne this is it!

I am back…Life is great

So sorry about this huge silence. Everything is good I have been just too busy. In fact my work was too intense for three months, I worked a way too much and spent a way too little time with my sweet little girl. Like I said in my previous post I am not a person who just keeps on going and feels miserable I always search for the change to make things better. In this case better meant changing my job. I just simply needed a job with better work life balance. I don’t want to miss these special years by working when my daughter is super cute and lovely . Life is too short for that. I feel happy, relieved and rejuvenated. I took a week off in between the jobs and I truly feel like now I can breathe freely and I have a chance to discover this amazing city.

IMG_20150630_094012

Yesterday I just went for shopping all by myself which was so relaxing..you will probably see some outfit photos soon. Today I went to see Jurassic World in the Crown cinema at Southbank. When I was 5 years old I was determined to become a palaeontologist. I read all the possible dinosaur books before they even became fashionable, I knew the latin names of those creatures and I was super excited about the first Jurassic Park movie back in 1992. Today in the theatre I felt the same goose bumps that I felt when I was in the primary school watching the first Jurassic Park movie. Now when I live in the continent that actually has some dinosaur excavation work maybe I make a career change when I hit 50 year crisis haha! Anyway these two days have been so relaxing.

IMG_20150630_145307

Last weekend we went to Mornington Peninsula which I absolutely love. A particularly great spot is T’Gallant. The restaurant is super cosy and casual and wine great quality for the price. I love fine dining but with a toddler I hesitate to go to white table cloth restaurants these days so T’Gallant is actually a super good middle ground!

IMG_20150627_120310

We bought three bottles of their great Pinot Noir!

IMG_20150627_120304

Another great spot is Merrick General Wine Store in Mornington Peninsula. Food is great and wine selection amazing. I got so fond of this fantastic Elgee Park sparkling. It is like one of my favourite champagnes Pol Roger!

IMG_20150509_142702

I warmly recommend!

Have a great start of the week!

L’Atelier de Joël Robuchon -Fine dining at its best

Last Saturday my husband and I went to L’Atelier de Joël Robuchon which is one Michelin star restaurant in Covent Garden. A true jewel of West End. We were both so excited about our date night. With the small toddler and being away from your home country you don’t really get much time off as a couple as there are no grandparents to help you out. Luckily our nanny does baby sitting for us occasionally which is great.  It is so relieving to leave our daughter to her hands as we know she know her inside out plus has done such an amazing job with her so far! It was a beautiful day in London and was lovely to walk hand in hand in the Central London.

IMG_20141025_134251

Like I said in my previous post London Restaurant Festival was still on so we got an amazing deal of full three course menu with matching wines in this fantastic restaurant.

IMG_20141025_135208

My husband and I chose different courses from the menu so that we could taste as many as possible.

We got an amuse-bouche from the kitchen to start with. It was some kind of chevre foam with port wine. Absolutely heavenly. So unusual but tasty.

IMG_20141025_140526

Sorry about the dark photos. The restaurant had a very dark interior, black and red so photographing was challenging!  The seating was Japanese teppanyaki style -super cool and modern, high bar stools around the kitchen. I loved it as we were able to watch chefs working and decorating each meal to their finest detail.

IMG_20141025_142415

My starter was this gorgeous foie gras with green beans. It was amazing. The wine with it was strong oaky chardonnay. I have to tell you a secret. I had the most horrible cold the day before and I was terrified that I could not taste anything the day after. I had a snotty nose but luckily I tasted most of it, maybe some super fine flavours I could not capture. Such a bad luck isn’t it!?

IMG_20141025_141806

My husband took the eschabeche of kipper with potatoes. Super good too! He got a crispy Sauvignon Blanc with it.

IMG_20141025_141812

My husband went for 4 course instead of 3 so we got an extra starter which was this phenomenally poached egg with Comte cheese sauce. The poach egg was a piece of art, it was cooked into perfection!

IMG_20141025_142525

My main course was salmon. I was suprised that the restaurant chose to serve it with rose wine. I was a bit doubtful of this combination as for me rose is more of a socialising summer wine but it went together with the salmon so well that I will definitely try this combination again, maybe serve it even for my guests!

IMG_20141025_143125

My husband chose pork belly with beans. Obviously he got a strong Spanish red with it. It was delicious although I am not a big pork belly fan. in fact I don’t eat pork at all…

IMG_20141025_143140

For dessert I went for chocolate macaroon with hazelnut cream filling and convinced my husband to take the strawberry cheesecake so that I could taste both…I got some red dessert wine with it, it was almost like a port wine. My husband got some super tasty Riesling dessert wine from Germany.  The combinations of flavours were just fantastic.

IMG_20141025_150616

How beautiful are these desserts!!!?

IMG_20141025_150608

I ordered black coffee with my dessert too. It was an amazingly tasty coffee, I guess Michelin star restaurants need to choose their coffees carefully too. They brought more cakes with it…luckily my husband had some room in his tummy.. I could not fit anything in…

IMG_20141025_150623

The food was so tasty, beautifully presented, each ingredient on the plate had its purpose. My husband was so fascinated about this eating experience that told me we needed to go again as it was so amazing. We have been fine dining a fair bit. Unfortunately I so often get disappointed not only due to the food but usually just the setting, I don’t like pretentious restaurants with white table cloths and dry waiters. This place was great. I loved the relaxed atmosphere, teppanyaki setting and music being rather loud which gave the restaurant an edgy club vibe.

IMG_20141025_143231

I warmly recommend this place. They do now the same menu as their pre-theatre menu. If you have a chance to go to L’Atelier de Joel Robuchon go, don’t miss your chance!
