The George pub in Belsize Park in London

the george

Last weekend we were invited to a pub lunch. My husband’s friend who married a Swedish girl and recently moved to Stockholm was back in London with his wife. They had chosen an amazing pub for the meet up. The place is called The George and it is situated in Belsize Park. It was totally crowded since 2pm so I recommend to book a table if you fancy a Sunday roast. The decor in this pub is beautiful with old chesterfields and cosy chairs, beer selection is great, baby change facilities are fantastic and all in all it is a great spot for couples, group of friends and families.

I unfortunately do not have any photos this time. It was a pretty hectic lunch, our daughter refused to nap on that day and was up and running all those three hours we spent there having lunch and drinks. Luckily there was a sweet young girl who entertained our daughter most of the time so we actually managed to socialise with the people invited for the lunch. I, however, totally forgot the photos.

Menu was great. I ordered a vegetarian burger and my husband had duck. I was particularly fond of the spacious and light feel this pub had, it had lots of room for kids to play around (funny, these are the things I need to consider these days..before it was all about the food and drinks!).

Anyway, I wanted to give you this tip in case you are looking for a great spot for Sunday roast. I can warmly recommend this pub!

Lovely pub in Canonbury -Ihana pubi Canonburyssa

My husband and I have this great habit of discovering new pubs every weekend. I guess this is part of the life of having a baby, instead of dining in the evenings we enjoy long and tasty lunches.  I am quite picky with food so I do lots of investigation before entering a new pub. I cannot stand bad pub food, I rather not eat.  I love gastropubs but finding a good one is not easy.

This summer we wanted to return to our old neighbourhood in Highbury. We had a long morning walk and tried to aim at being in the pub around midday to feed our daughter and put her to her day time nap so that we could enjoy our lunch peacefully. I have to say our daughter is such a good day time sleeper and we have been blessed with 3h daily naps.

Near Highbury there is an area called Canonbury, we went to a pub called Albion. It is super popular so you need to book the table well in advance. Sometimes you only get a table by calling in.  The pub has the most amazing beer garden at summer time and food is just phenomenallly tasty. It is extremely family friendly too, staff treated us super well and entertained our daughter. In fact some of the best experiences as a family.

The pub is on a quiet street in Canonbury.

Food is delicious and well presented.

Beer selection is good. Some unusual choices.

They serve spit roast too for larger groups, 10 people minimum. There was one table that ordered this roast so I ran to take some photos!

Definitely not for vegetarians 🙂

If you happen to wonder in North London I warmly recommend this place. In general you only find beer gardens outside of the centre, Notting Hill and Kensington have some and then North London has many. This one you won’t get disappointed with!

Now I need to run, I am heading to Helsinki with my dad and my daughter. I hope you have a great Monday!

The Orange Tree Pub -Pubi Totteridgessa

We love to do day trips at weekends. My dear Aussie husband and I both love discovering new places in London particularly when new pubs are involved. On Saturday we went to this praised and recommended pub in Tottridge called The Orange Tree. I had heard it was good but never did I think it would have been this good. It was like a fine dining restaurant, fantastic atmosphere, beautiful decor and great location and yes, the food was top draw.

Rakastamme  päiväretkiä. Minä ja rakas aussiemieheni yksinkertaisesti nautimme uusien paikkojen katsastamisesta etenkin jos kuvioon kuuluu pubiruokailu. Lauantaina vierailimme eräässä hyvin arvostetussa ja suositellussa pubissa Tottridgessa nimeltä The Orange Tree.

I had this amazing scallops starter. Scallops were seared in the top quality olive oil and served with pineapple salsa, sweet chilli sauce and balsamico. I got so excited about this dish so I prepared the whole fried squid with salsa in the evening. I will post the recipe later :)!

Postaan reseptin pian blogiini!

For the main course I ordered a duck salad. I am getting used to ordering salads as my main. This is due to a fact that I know that every time the main arrives my baby gets hungry too and there is no way I am finishing my meal before feeding her, so the best option is to order something that tastes good even if being cold: salad. With the starter I had Australian Little Yerring Chardonnay. I am a Chardonnay girl from head to toes, but I ordered this wine due to the nostalgic feelings. My dear Aussie husband and I did a trip to Yarra Valley and actually visited Yerring station  a few years ago. In the winery I had this wine last time! With the mains we chose Shiraz-Viognier from the same vineyard. My dear Aussie husband had a seafood linguini as his starter and spit chicken roast as his main. Everything was so delicious that I warmly recommend you to visit this pub. It is like a top class restaurant. The staff is wonderful, food excellent, wine list very interesting and the pub is also very child friendly.

Alkuruoan kanssa tilasin valkoviinia, australialaista Little Yerring Chardonnayta.

I hope you had a great weekend too!

Toivottavasti teilläkin oli onnistunut viikonloppu!

Sunday in Highgate Village -Sunnuntai Highgaten kylässä

As my dad was in town we wanted to take him to one of our favourite pubs The Red Lion and the Sun that I mentioned in my blog post a few weeks ago. This pub is located in Highgate. As the weather was wonderful we thought we would have a lovely walk there. First we crossed our beautiful local park and then showed my dad the high street in Highgate Village.

Koska isäni oli Lontoossa viikonloppuna ajattelimme viedä hänet lempipubiimme The Red Lion and the Sun, josta olenkin jo aiemmin kirjoitellyt blogispostauksessani. Tämä pubi sijaitsee Highgatessa Lontoossa. Ensin kävelimme halki kauniin läheisen puistomme ja sitten suuntasimme kohti Highgatea.

The Highgate Pantry.

I have probably said this multiple times before but I love these small pockets of London that are like villages with all the independent shops, bakeries, butchers, fishmongers, green grocers and cute boutiques. The Highgate Pantry bakery had a mouthwatering window!

Olenkin jo aiemmin sanonut useaan kertaan, että rakastan Lontoon pieniä itsenäisiä kylämäisiä yhteisöjä. Etenkin pohjois Lontoo on täynnä näitä pieniä kaupunginosia kuten Highgate, Hampsted, Highbury, Stoke Newington, Primrose Hill, Winchmore Hill, Muswell Hill, Crouch End. The Highgate Pantry leipomolla oli upea ikkuna.

I usually try not to support the chains, but Le Pain de Quotidien has quality food and all organic too!

Yritän useimmiten välttää ketjuja, mutta Le Pain de Quotidien on loistava. Ruoan laatu on hyvää ja kaikki luomua.

A lovely fruiterers in Highgate. — Ihana hedelmäkauppa Highgatessa.

The place called Limone in Highgate has a great selection of dairy and gluten free cakes. So all of you who are looking for finding some special diet coffee places in North London, this is one for you! Yesterday Limone had a tasty selection of special diet treats and one particularly interesting cake -lemon rosemary cake that was dairy free! Inspired by this, I will definitely bake some lemon drizzle cake next week when our cooker will be finally fixed. British Gas promised it to be ready next Monday -finally! Fingers crossed.

Jos etsit erityisruokavalioon sopivaa kahvipaikkaa Pohjois-Lontoossa Limone Highgatessa on mahtava. Se tarjoaa kotitekoisia maidottomia ja gluteiinittomia kakkuja. Yksi mielenkiintoisemmista oli sitruuna-rosmariini kuivakakku. Kuulosti tosi herkulliselta!

Waterlow Park in Highgate is super beautiful! I recommend a walk in there! I had a lovely Sunday, hopefully you had a relaxing weekend too!

Waterlow puisto Highgatessa on todella kaunis. Suosittelen kävelyä siellä! MInulla oli upea sunnuntaipäivä. Oli niin ihanaa nähdä isää! Toivottavasti teilläkin oli rentouttava viikonloppu!

My lovely neighbourhood – Ihana asuinalueeni

I joined today the club of running pram mothers when instead of my usual morning walk I found myself running with the pram. I love running in the park and breathing fresh autumn air! It is nice to get back to running again although I have to say that it is actually quite tough to run uphill and push the pram at the same time. It is a real workout if I have ever felt one.

It took me a couple of months to get used to our new neighbourhood as this is much more residential than the previous area we lived in. Now I have to admit I have fallen in love with this new one . I love peaceful streets, beautiful parks, buggies that I see everywhere, huge and well kept houses and gardens. Everywhere you walk you see that this is home not a place where you would rent a flat and not stay for a long time.

I usually do two walks a day with my little baby girl and I thought I would share with you my morning walk views as I find them quite beautiful.

The ponds in the park are pretty.

The autumn has arrived as you can see from the colours.

One of the most gorgeous streets in our neighbourhood.

One house on this street is just bigger than another..this one has 12 windows on one side -just amazing!

Image

So peaceful. I am still only 35 minutes away form Oxford Circus believe it or not!

Image

I think this house is one of the most beautiful ones and for me this is what England is all about. Country style houses and big beautiful gardens.

Our lovely local pub where we went to last weekend. This fire place space is like from some ones living room. So cosy!

English pubs, so pretty! We have such a great selection of pubs in our area. All of them gastropubs that serve superb and delicious restaurant quality food. They are also very family friendly but in the evening you are guaranteed to see some mothers having their night off from babysitting duties and wearing their nicest clothes on!
